Here, we’ve compiled answers to some of the most common questions we receive to help you better understand our breeding practices and what to expect when welcoming one of our puppies into your home. From details about our puppies' health, temperament, expected size and potential coat colors, to our position in regards to tail docking and dew claw removal, we’ve provided clear and informative responses to ensure you feel confident and well-informed.
Along with being kept up-to-date on vet visits, all of our parents undergo genetic health testing through Embark. This helps ensure the health, temperament, and quality of the dogs we raise. It screens for hereditary diseases and genetic disorders, ensuring that the dogs are less likely to develop certain health issues. Testing also helps with understanding traits such as size, coat color, and behavior, leading to more informed breeding decisions.
Additionally, genetic health testing can enhance the breed's overall health and longevity by reducing the likelihood of passing down harmful genetic traits.
We test our parent dogs through OFA for their hips, elbows, and eyes to ensure we’re breeding healthy, sound dogs and giving their puppies the best possible start in life. These screenings help identify and reduce the risk of inherited conditions like hip or elbow dysplasia and genetic eye diseases, which can cause pain or long-term health problems. By only breeding dogs with strong, healthy results, we’re protecting the well-being of our dogs, improving the breed, and providing families with happy, healthy companions.
No, we do not dock our puppies' tails or remove their dew claws. We believe in allowing our puppies to keep these natural features as they are important for their balance, communication, and overall well-being. Tails help puppies express themselves, and dew claws can provide extra stability and support. We are committed to ensuring our puppies grow up healthy and happy, and we feel that keeping their tails and dew claws intact is the best choice for their development.
Our Miniature Aussiedoodle puppies are expected to reach a fully grown weight of around 25 to 40 pounds, depending on their genetics and individual growth patterns. With a perfect blend of the Miniature Australian Shepherd and Moyen Poodle, they inherit traits that make them both charming and manageable in size. They’ll typically stand about 15 to 20 inches tall at the shoulder, making them an ideal companion for families who want a medium-sized dog that’s both energetic and adaptable. As they grow, these puppies will develop into loving, intelligent, and playful adults, maintaining their delightful personality in a size that fits comfortably in most living spaces.
Unfortunately right now, our dogs are on a strict no-contact policy with other dogs and people. This helps us protect the unborn puppies from potentially harmful infections and diseases that could have devastating effects.
We primarily follow the puppy culture program which supports healthy development by increasing circulation, strengthening the immune system, helping puppies adapt comfortably to new experiences, and building stress tolerance (the ability to bounce back quickly in stressful situations). This foundation helps prevent anxiety, excessive barking, and other stress-related behaviors later in life. Between days 3-16, we focus on gentle handling exercises to help them feel comfortable being touched. As they grow, they'll be introduced to lots of different sounds, strange objects, uneven terrain, obstacles, problem solving, people and animals of all shapes and sizes, crate time, car rides, and being ok with taking food/toys/bones away. We'll also work on basic manners like "manding", calmly sitting in front of you to ask for attention.
As I spend time with the puppies I'll be taking down notes and keeping records on how each puppy responds to various situations. During every session, I'll be able to build a profile highlighting key personality traits, which will give me an overall picture of each puppy's personality and temperament.
The Puppy Culture program continues beyond 9 weeks, so we’d be happy to share the next steps if you’d like to continue the same approach at home.
We keep our puppies until they are 9 weeks old to give them extra time to socialize, learn from their mother and littermates, and strengthen their immune systems. This extra time helps make the transition to their new homes much smoother. After their 8-week vaccinations, we closely monitor them for any reactions and ensure they are in the best possible health before joining your family.
Both of our Moms are merle, and have red and blue examples in their lineage. They also both have black tri coat in their lines. Our dad is a beautiful red parti, with a white coat and red patterns. As a result, we can expect a wonderful variety of colors and markings in the puppies, making each one truly unique.
Aussiedoodles are a wonderful mix of the Australian Shepherd and Poodle, and as such, they do require regular grooming to keep their coats healthy and looking their best. While their coats are typically low-shedding, they can grow thick and curly, which means they need regular brushing to prevent matting and tangling. Depending on their coat type, some Aussiedoodles may also benefit from professional grooming every few months to keep their fur neat and manageable. Regular grooming not only helps maintain their appearance but also promotes healthy skin and coat, ensuring your Aussiedoodle stays happy and comfortable.
We'll begin potty training early using a litter box/pee pad setup within their playpen. As they grow, we introduce bell training-teaching them to ring a bell hung on the door when they need to go outside.
We will be sending your pup home with a small blanket (with mom and litter mates scent on it). This provides the puppies some comfort after being separated from their mom. Along with the blanket, your pup will go home with a chew toy, plush toy, a bell for your doorknob, a packet containing information on bell training, their health record, a small brush, pee pads, and a small baggie of our food. We want you and your puppy to feel prepared and confident as you begin this wonderful adventure!
